Cold and Flu Season
Ever notice the “cold and flu season” is traditionally between Halloween and Easter?

Let’s look at all the special occasions that period includes - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Easter. What’s the common denominator? Lots of sweets!

Sugar is known to suppress the immune system (1. Sanchez, A., et al. "Role of Sugars in Human Neutrophilic Phagocytosis," American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Nov 1973;261:1180-1184. 2. Ringsdorf, W., Cheraskin, E. and Ramsay R. "Sucrose,Neutrophilic Phagocytosis and Resistance to Disease," Dental Survey. 1976;52(12):46-48.). By weakening our immune function with all the holiday sugar feasting, we open ourselves to infection by any bugs that come around. As Louis Pasteur so aptly put it, "Le microbe n'est rien. Le terrain est tout." This means the microbe is nothing, the ground is everything, that is, what counts really is the total health of the individual. A healthy immune system will resist whatever germs pass it by.
